In March 2018, the Government announced their intention to ban electronic collars. The government then laid draft legislation in April 2023 which would make the use of electronic collars illegal in England as of 1st February 2024.

This legislation was laid in the form of an Affirmative Statutory Intrument. Such an instrument requires approval from both the House of Lords AND The House of Commons in order to come into force.

The statutory instrument was debated and approved by the House of Lords in June 2023.

As of today, the 31st January 2024, the Delegated Legislation Committee has not been formed and and as yet there is no date set. Therefore The House of Commons has NOT  approved the legislation.

As a result, the ban of electronic collars cannot come into force on the 1st February.

Defra have stated that they still remain committed to a ban and will proceed when parliamentary time allows. Whilst we realise that this is not over, the use of electronic collars currently remains legal in England.

Huge thanks to everyone who has shown their support and committed to true animal welfare.

We will be in touch, but for now THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

All the best

Jamie and the ARDO team.
